They erroneously believe that medical theories are unfathomable and that disease may only be treated by professional doctors. Without doubt, the administration of medicine should be directed by a physician. However, those who have mastered the infant massage skills contained in this book no longer question the fact that parents can be doctors within the family. Infant massage is, of course, not a universal cure, and seeing a doctor is sometimes necessary. However, many ailments can be treated effectively by parents with massage. In fact, children's diseases are, by and large, very simple. Only a few are serious and life-threatening. Most childhood diseases are common minor ailments that can be treated satisfactorily with massage. In such cases, massage treatment gets even better and certainly safer effects than modern medicines. Therefore, parents do not need to unduly rely on doctors for the treatment of childhood ailments. For the treatment of many ailments, doctors who do not know the child's circumstances are not necessarily more effective than the parents. Nowadays, physicians tend to dispenses medicine exclusively, and many doctors habitually overprescribe these drugs which tend to be expensive and produce side effects. Although most doctors are aware of these side effects, they have, nonetheless, forgotten older, safer, more benign therapies such as Chinese infant massage. Thus frequent injections and hospitalization are prescribed, inflicting unnecessary pain and distress on children and their families. It is my belief and experience that parents who have mastered basic Chinese infant massage skills are a good substitute for a cabinet full of medicine. Requiring nothing more than a pair of hands, this art can solve big problems. Using Chinese infant massage, children are spared the pain of injections and the side effects of drugs. Chinese infant massage categorically has no side effects. In addition, Chinese infant massage not only treats disease remedially but can also be used to prevent disease and promote even better health in the otherwise healthy. This is not something that can be done by modern doctors. As a clinician, I can say without hesitation that children treated frequently by Chinese infant massage are more healthy and less often sick than those treated by modern pharmaceutical. Thus I recommend the art of Chinese infant massage to parents everywhere and to practitioners worldwide who are looking for a safer, more humane, yet effective alternative to drug therapy for our xiao peng you, little friends.
